Wow, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this site.  A virtual board for all my ideas!

There are a couple of things you can do on Sundays, Monday nights and the sometimes Thursday night games.  You can go to another room in your house, pretend you are interested just so you can tag along to the sports bar, have a girls night out, spend Sunday running errands (you have to have a lot, it’s an all day affair) or you can just freaking play fantasy football. 

If you play you get the opportunity to kick your boyfriends/husbands ass on a regular basis and not have the cops called for domestic violence.  You get to kick his friends asses, adding credibility to your already “awesome” status with them.  Not to mention you get to raz each other through your “you suck” posts all week long.  My only advice here, get out of the kitchen if you can’t take the heat.  You’ve got to be willing to take some shit if you want to dish it out.

Most importantly though is that you don’t have to cook 3 nights!  Pizza totally counts for Thursday night games as “dinner” – order yourself a side salad and stick to just one slice of pizza (see you don’t have to ruin the diet).  Sunday’s call for all day snacking.  Easy enough here, veggie trays with ranch, sliced fruits and of course it helps to put out some chips and guacamole.  Again, keeping it easy on the figure, stick to small amounts of chips, gauc and ranch and you’re golden!  We’ve also found this amazing dip at Trader Joe’s, its a bean, meat, cheese, spicy kind of deal, similar to a 7 layer dip, but hot.  Two tablespoons = 40 calories!  AWESOME!  So, now the dilemma, what to do about Monday nights.  Still trying to keep it easy rather than cooking a regular meal…toss some steaks or burgers on the BBQ and throw a steam bag of veggies into the microwave.  Super fast, super easy and relatively no clean up!  If that’s not floating your boat go easy with Soup and sandwiches, or taco salads.  All easy, all quick, all football friendly.

I know, I know I haven’t addressed the hard part yet.  I hear you out there “But Heather I don’t know anything about football”.  I didn’t really either last year, but by playing fantasy you learn so much and it suddenly doesn’t mean what’s going on in that particular game you’re watching, what matters is how your guys are performing.  It’s one of those things that you have to just do to get the hang of.  Trust me, my boyfriend had no problem explaining it to me for about the first 6 weeks in a row.  He liked to talk about it and teach me.  It gave us some common ground.  Don’t worry if you are not generally a football fan, you don’t have to pick a certain team to cheer for or be a die hard football person.  But, if you’ve got a competitive streak – then just do it!

Lastly, NO, you do not have to watch every game, every day.  But, it makes the time that you do have to watch that much more enjoyable!

Now…off to pick my team names.  Last year I was “Farve Dollar Footlong”, I need something more crafty this year, oh and I’m going to be in two leagues.

One more thing, do pay a little bit of attention as to who is starting, whose not and whose on the DL (disabled list).  The last thing you want to do is be the girl (or guy) that STARTS his bench.  Yeah, no points for you genius!

 I’ve seen this show before it was profiling very young, almost babies.  I think they were 6 months or so to about 3 or 4 maybe.  Today, they were profiling 8-10 year olds.   This group looks like a bunch of 40 year old ladies that are about 1/2 sized.  What distracted me the most was there teeth!  Almost every single one of the was wearing a flipper.  Why??  I understand that this is a pagent, but these are little girls, they’re suppose to be missing teeth and have a mixture of their big teeth and little teeth.  That’s what makes their little smiles so darn cute.    watching an 8 year old walk down the stage and then open her mouth and smile with a full set of adult teeth is just scary!

One 8 year old was so serious also that she said “if I don’t win, I’ll trash the hotel room” – holy crap!  Amazing!  And, waxing…this little girl got her eye brows waxed too!    There’s a alos a little 4 year old who is the biggest smart ass ever.  Good grief.  If I ever have a daughter and decide to do a pagent I WILL NOT be this kind of mother.

“Lawyer: Norwegian Attack Suspect May Be Insane” (Huffington Post, 2011) – Really, honestly, you couldn’t come up with something better than that for the headline.  Clearly this ass is insane, what sane person would do something so awful.  Come on, give us something else.

Warmer Weather Predicted to Stick Around (MSNBC, 2011) – Honestly, it is the summer people.  The majority of the country is in a heat wave.  This isn’t news, we know this.  Maybe you could tell us how long these poor people in other states can handle their unusual heat problem.

Casey Anthony: She Needs Therapy (CNN, 2011) – Usually I am in the business of stating the obvious, but holy cow, CNN certainly beat me to it today.

I am currently enrolled in a Cyber Law class as part of the MBA program.  One of the requirements of the course is a research project based on any topic of our choosing related to cyber law.  Something that has been swirling lately in the media is cyber bullying, stalking and/or harassing – so of course I gravitate towards that topic (besides, it’s more interesting to me than contract law).  While watching TV last weekend (and outlining my research paper) an ad came up for a movie on the ABC Family channel called CyberBully.  I recorded the movie and started watching it this morning.

In a nutshell, a high school girl gets her first computer, her mother lifts her heavy-handed ways and the daughter sets up a profile on a Facebook-esque type site.  Let the cyber bullying begin.  I was thinking this is insane, this is so mean, this is…you fill in the blank here with whatever kind of words you would use to describe this.  It got to the point where this poor innocent girl tried to commit suicide.

I found myself to be extremely emotional, upset and then realized, I knew exactly how that girl felt.  Helpless!  The school wasn’t doing anything, her friends were walking away from her, she was alone.  I knew this feeling all to well.  I was this girl! 

In middle school life changed overnight for me.  Once a fun-loving, excited and energetic 6th grader, I crumbled overnight.  Friends turned on me and people whom I wasn’t close friends with decided it was appropriate to harass me at school, follow me home taunting me and call my house and leave obscene message on our answering machine.  Friends turned on me and I was alone.  The school wouldn’t do anything about the bullying for reason at this point that I can’t recall, but it felt like they just didn’t care.  This group continued their ways and eventually cornered me in a secluded section of the quad at the school.  As the girls gathered around me they started saying “Do it David, do it”.  David then took off his leather belt and proceeded to put it around my neck.  This was met by fits of laughter and continued heckling.  I was able to get free of the belt and their circle - running straight to the counselors office.  Again, nothing – no one could help me.  I had a red mark and welt on my neck and WAITED because they were at lunch!  How could this be, how could I be choked, called hateful names and be asked to WAIT while the only people at school that could protect me finished their lunch!   Once I was able to see someone they asked me what I did to provoke this type of action and behavior.  WHAT?  WTF?  Do you really think I said come tried to strangle me, and oh by the way I welcome your taunting, its awesome.  Hell no!  What did I do to these people, nothing, absolutely nothing.  I didn’t steal a boyfriend, call them names or do any other of that petty stuff that teenagers get all bent out of shape about.  The counselor made me feel like it was my fault, like I had brought on this type of treatment myself.

 Of course this was the straw that broke the camel’s back with my parents, they were not going to sit idly by and let the authorities at school get away with this.  It took my parents threatening the school that they would press charges before anything was done.  The school then brought in the students and their parents.  I had to relive the entire torture that was 7th grade before these parents and the bullies.  Some of the parents were saddened that their children acted this way, I remember even one mom was brought to tears.  She felt awful that her child had behaved that way.  Others weren’t so nice, making excuses for their children…sorry folks trying to choke someone out is never excusable.  What happened to those kids, nothing that I can recall unless their parents paddled their asses when they got home.

Things died down and I fumbled my way through 8th grade, but life wasn’t the same.  You still don’t feel normal.

High school was a nice change, big school LOTS of new people and soon those bullies were a distant memory…or so I thought.  Watching the movie today made me realize that it still hurts, but it can hurt less when you stick up for yourself and others that are being bullied.  Fighting back doesn’t work, but standing up does.

This is a little raw, a little therapeutic and mostly my plea to my friends that are parents – don’t let your children grow up to be bullies please, and teach them how to stick up for people when someone else is bullying them.

However, what really irritates me is when someone is “trying” to gossip but just flat-out tells lies.  I have had the displeasure of knowing some of these types of folks through out my 31 years and I can honestly say, I still don’t know what to think of them.

I know some people maliciously tell lies and spread rumors just to be hurtful, spiteful and mean.  They have nothing better to do then to try to make people hate each other or to think ill or them.  For the record folks, this is defamation!  Yeah, you can sue over this (crazy!) but true.  If someone says something about me that is untrue and causes me to be viewed in a negative fashion that is slander. 

Then there are those that are just socially awkward.  Spreading false rumors and gossip just to seem cool, but in reality they are anything but!

And, we can’t forget about those that are just plain dumb.  They heard something from Bobby Jo, who heard it from Peggy Sue, who heard it from her mother’s, uncle’s, cousins, best-friends, father’s pet monkey.  REALLY!  REALLY!  Come on people, let’s please have a little bit more sense than that!  Can we please?

So, moral of this story, gossip is gossip, but flat-out lies are annoyingly punishable by a spear to the eye!

• If you have a topic you want to discuss, toss it over the fence, nothing is off-limits here, I’d be more than happy to tee up a discussion
• If I am making general statements, don’t get all butt-hurt and think I am talking about you, that’s just your guilty mind knowing that you should be lumped into that category.  Trust me, I never talk about my friends or family.  If I do I change names to protect the guilty from stoning, public humiliation and other sorts of medieval torture.
